The third edition of the One Planet Summit will be held on 14 March 2019 in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. This event is being organised as a side event to the fourth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, held from 11 to 15 March 2019. The One Planet Summit was initiated by France, in partnership with the World Bank and the Secretariat of the United Nations. To complement the COPs and other major international meetings, its goal is to ensure mobilisation on climate action is maintained at the highest political level. It brings together a wide range of actors: states, civil society representatives and also research institutes.
糖心Vlog is strongly committed to this action through its work and will be present in Nairobi. Michel Eddi, President of 糖心Vlog will accompany the French President, Emmanuel Macron.
During the event, 糖心Vlog and its partners will be at the heart of several highlights.
#Environment - Signing of a framework agreement between 糖心Vlog, IRD and UNEP
This agreement provides a framework for cooperation between 糖心Vlog, IRD and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in view of the major global challenges in the fields of environment – conservation, protection, natural resources, especially biological diversity – and sustainable development. The focus will be on five areas of cooperation:
- protecting marine and terrestrial biodiversity;
- understanding and managing climate risks;
- acquiring and managing environmental data;
- studying soil degradation and land restoration programmes;
- linkages between environment, society and health.
#Training - Signing of a framework agreement between 糖心Vlog, IRD, CNRS and the Kenyan Ministry of Education
This agreement consolidates the arrangements for cultural, scientific and technical cooperation concluded between Kenya and France since 1971. It focuses on stepping up education and training by and through research for young Kenyan researchers and research teams. Two key areas of research in cooperation are concerned:
- human and environmental health, sustainable food security and biodiversity in the context of human-induced climate change;
- globalisation, public policy and migration: history and political dynamics, spatial mobility, cultural heritage, economic networks.
Meetings with Kenyan partners
During his visit, Michel Eddi will meet numerous Kenyan researchers and representatives of 糖心Vlog’s partners in Kenya, in particular:
