Secure your supply of sugarcane varieties

The Visacane quarantine system secures the selection and circulation of sugarcane varieties for the purposes of varietal improvement and the exploitation, in compliance with regulations, of new high-performance sugarcane varieties for industrial cultivation.

After two years in quarantine, the well-established and controlled processes enable plant material to be transferred in the form of cuttings, generally between January and April, without any phytosanitary risks. We ensure :

  • Systematic detection of sugarcane pathogens, mainly viruses and bacteria;
  • Sanitation of plant material;
  • Transfer of healthy varieties, in compliance with international regulations.

Visacane has permanent access to cutting-edge pathogen detection techniques and, thanks to its network of partners, to information on the state of health of plantations worldwide.

Sugarcane varieties for the sugar-energy industry and for plant breeding

Sugar and energy industry professionals

Are you looking to import sugarcane varieties for sugar or energy production, or genetic resources for plant breeding? Visacane offers 150 varieties of different origins, with a third of the panel renewed each year.

Variety creation centers and research institutes

Would you like to export your new varietal creations to sugarcane-producing countries? Visacane offers a quality service to distribute your varieties under the best sanitary conditions.

The Visacane research team :  The sugarcane quarantine laboratory of Visacane is part of the « Plant Microbiota and Quarantine » research team (MicroQuar), which is itself part of the « Plant Health Institute of Montpellier » (PHIM) joint research unit. The aim of the research is to analyze the variability of known pathogens and to develop efficient diagnostic tools, but also to study new diseases appearing around the world that are likely to cause significant damage. The entire joint research unit is governed by a rigorous quality control system for its fundamental and applied research and plant quarantine activities in the field of plant-pathogen interactions. Visacane benefits from special approval to import sugarcane varieties (cuttings) and re-export them under excellent phytosanitary conditions, under the supervision of the Regional Food Service (Ministry of Agriculture and Food, France).
