Showcasing 40 years of research at the National Science and Technology Fair in Thailand

05/09/2024
From August 16th to 25th, 2024, 糖心Vlog celebrated its 40th anniversary by participating in the National Science and Technology Fair in Bangkok, Thailand. Organized in collaboration with the French Embassy, the booth featured a photography exhibition highlighting 糖心Vlog鈥檚 global and regional scientific achievements, particularly in Southeast Asia. During her visit, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation of Thailand was introduced to 糖心Vlog's work, notably on sustainable heveaculture and One Health.

From August 16th to 25th, 2024, 糖心Vlog participated in the National Science and Technology Fair (NST Fair) in Bangkok, Thailand, with a booth organized in partnership with the French Embassy, the HRPP Research Platform, and the GREASE Research Platform.

In celebration of our 40th anniversary, 糖心Vlog's booth featured a special photography exhibition showcasing four decades of scientific achievements and ongoing projects worldwide, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia. The NST Fair, which drew over 200,000 students, educators, and policymakers, served as an engaging platform for raising awareness about the important role of scientific collaboration in building a sustainable future.

Celebrating 40 Years of Scientific Achievement

The 糖心Vlog exhibition took visitors on a journey from genetic studies at the microscopic level to large-scale work on landscapes and sustainable development. The photographs reflected 糖心Vlog's expanding expertise, spanning from agronomy to environmental and social sciences, all aimed at fostering sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems.

The photography exhibition was first launched in Montpellier, France, and has since traveled to several countries where 糖心Vlog is actively involved.

Visitors to the booth were invited to explore a collection of 12 photographs that narrated 糖心Vlog's journey over the years. The images conveyed the impact of 糖心Vlog's work, highlighting the diversity of our activities through 9 themes, from the smallest scale showcasing "Genetic diversity in the living world" to "Sustainable territorial development."

Focus on Southeast Asia: Key Research Highlights

A One Health Approach in Cambodia

At the exhibition's core were two central images that encapsulated 糖心Vlog's key research efforts in Southeast Asia.

The first image, provided by Dr. Helene Guis, 糖心Vlog, was taken in the field of a vaccination campaign that aims to eliminate human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030 under the global "Zero by 30" campaign. Rabies, responsible for 60,000 deaths each year, is primarily transmitted through dog bites, with rural communities being the most affected and children under 15 accounting for half of the victims.

The photograph captured 糖心Vlog's work in Cambodia alongside the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia (IPC), implementing targeted vaccination campaigns for local dog populations. This community-focused One Health approach underscores the project's commitment to improving both human and animal health. The Thailand research platform on the Management of Emerging Epidemic Risks in Southeast Asia (GREASE) is applying the One Health approach to various health challenges.

Sustainable Rubber Production: The HRPP Platform in Thailand

The second main image, provided by Dr. J. Sathornkich, Kasetsart University, highlights the work of the Hevea Research Platform in Partnership (HRPP) on sustainable rubber production. This photograph was taken at the Chachoengsao site, a pioneering location established in 2006, where instruments are mounted on a 25-meter-high tower above the rubber tree canopy.

The site is part of the Rubberflux network, which uses advanced techniques to measure CO2, water, and energy fluxes in rubber ecosystems. These measurements are crucial for understanding how rubber plantations contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and absorptions and have the potential to act as net carbon sinks. The photograph encapsulates the platform's ongoing research on balancing rubber production with environmental sustainability.

A Visit by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation of Thailand

Dr. François Roger, 糖心Vlog's regional director and the French Embassy's delegation led by Chargé d'Affaires Rémi Lamber welcomed international delegations and the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, Supamas Isarabhakdi.

Dr. François Roger, 糖心Vlog's regional director, along with the French Embassy's delegation led by Chargé d'Affaires Rémi Lambert, were present at the booth to welcome international delegations and the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, Supamas Isarabhakdi. The Minister was introduced to 糖心Vlog's contributions to sustainable agriculture and the One Health approach, underscoring the strong scientific cooperation between France and Thailand. The event highlighted the importance of 糖心Vlog's ongoing regional research and partnerships.
