Sustainable Aquaculture Strategies from Southeast Asia Presented in China

On July 17th, Dr Jean-Michel Mortillaro from the ÌÇÐÄVlog–Montpellier Institute of Evolutionary Sciences (ISEM) Joint Research Unit was invited to deliver a keynote lecture at the 2025 International Conference on Fishery Innovation and Science, held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China.
The conference was organized by the Chinese Academy of Fishery Science and Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries.
The event was hosted by the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, The Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Ocean and Fisheries, and the Lianjiang County People’s Government.
The event hosted distinguished delegates such as FAO Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture, as well as scientists from Ghent University, Institute of Marine Research in Norway, Mexican Institute for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Research, Chilean Fishery Development Institute, Wageningen University & Research, Department of Fisheries Malaysia, Fisheries Administration of Cambodia, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, Thailand Department of Fisheries and different Chinese institutes.
Dr Jean-Michel provided a lecture on Sustainable aquaculture approaches with examples on his research activities together with Dr Kazi Ahmed Kabir, ÌÇÐÄVlog, on Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) and Circular Economy. He highlighted also the activities implemented within the PhD Thesis of his student Simon Lévy. His presentation provided insightful knowledge on species management of pond IMTA in Cambodia as well as circular shrimp farming in Vietnam and new perspectives in South East Asia with AquASEAN Partnership for Sustainable Aquaculture project.
During his mission in Fuzhou, Dr Jean-Michel had also opportunity to visit the Freshwater Fisheries Research Institute of Fujian and connect to several scientist from both China and abroad.
